What is AquaUnder?

AquaUnder is an underground arena irrigation system that delivers water from beneath the riding surface, maintaining moisture evenly through the footing profile rather than applying water from above.

Water is distributed through a concealed subsurface system, helping regulate moisture levels more consistently across the entire arena.

For horses and riders, this means:

  • More consistent footing
  • Reduced dust levels
  • Better stability and cushioning
  • Less interruption to riding schedules
  • More efficient water use

Why Riding Surfaces Need Irrigation?

A riding surface is only as good as its consistency. Without stable moisture levels, arena surfaces can quickly become:

Dusty and uncomfortable for horses and riders

Inconsistent, loose or deep underfoot, affecting performance and confidence

Labour-intensive to maintain, requiring constant watering and levelling

Expensive to manage, through wasted water and repeated maintenance

Challenges with traditional watering systems:

Many arenas rely on overland sprinklers or manual watering. While effective in some situations, these approaches can lead to:

  • Uneven wetting patterns
  • Dry patches and oversaturated areas
  • Water loss through evaporation and wind drift
  • Downtime while the arena is watered
  • High ongoing water consumption

This is where underground irrigation is a great solution.

Key Features of AquaUnder

Pressure regulated drippers

Regardless of the size of your arena, every underground dripper releases the same amount of water ensuring absolute consistency.

Computer control

Automatic schedules turn on and off with computer control so you never miss an irrigation cycle.  Optional rain sensors can be included.

Header tank

Our kit includes an appropriate pump and tank so low water pressure is not a problem.

Underground pipes

Ensure your facility looks professional with no surface pipework and reduce the risk of accidental damage.

✽  What We Offer

Benefits of AquaUnder

1

Consistent Surface Moisture

Water is distributed more evenly beneath the arena, reducing dry zones and oversaturation.

2

Reduced Dust

Better moisture control helps suppress airborne dust - particularly valuable during warmer months.

3

Ride While Irrigating

Because irrigation occurs below the surface, arenas can often remain in use during watering.

3

No Water Waste

Underground delivery reduces losses from evaporation, overspray, and wind drift.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about AquaUnder

Generally smaller arenas up to 50x30 will require a 5-10 thousand litre tank.
60x40 + requires 10 thousand litres or more.

The actual size tank for your arena will depend on the following:

  • Distance from arena
  • Size of arena
  • Water infeed to tank (pressure and flow) as this determines fill up time

We will always have this conversation with you in order to provide the right size.

We specify a header tank which is fed by your water from mains or borehole.  This means your infeed pressure is not consequential to the rest of the system.

This is because the water is actually pumped from the header tank at the correct pressure for the irrigation system.

After site visit, we will determine these parameters for you.

Yes, absolutely, we would be glad to discuss with you.  However please remember:

  • It doesn't rain all year round - you will need a back up feed of mains or borehole water.
  • You need a large roof space and appropriate infrastructure to utilise the water.
  • You will need filtration to ensure the water is free from debris before entering the irrigation system.

If you wish to integrate rainwater harvesting systems, please ask and we will discuss everything with you.
